Dear Family Members,
Has your student expressed interest in joining a fraternity or sorority to complement their educational experience while attending Southern Illinois University Edwardsville? Please take a few minutes to look through our website to learn more about each of our organizations and councils. The fraternity and sorority community at SIUE has been in existence since 1961, with a continuing tradition of fostering academic excellence, leadership skills, philanthropic efforts and active contributions to both the campus and Edwardsville communities.
The concept of fraternities and sororities have existed formally since 1776 and the concept has continued to adapt and evolve since its creation. Every year, students at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and across campuses around the world find their own sense of belonging through joining one of these organizations - and in turn, help mold and shape the future of fraternities and sororities. Much like the collegiate experience, the fraternity/sorority experience is one that helps foster growth and challenge in a variety of ways. It's an experience that doesn't demand perfect people but does uphold standards and values that help promote progression. One of the best pieces of this work is to see the development of first-year or new students who join the fraternity/sorority community, find their voice, develop as a leader and citizen, and then walk the stage and into the next chapter of their lives being so much better off as a result of the investment they made in themselves and into their fraternity/sorority experience.
While each organization maintains its own activities, traditions and (inter)national affiliations, each is founded on similar principles of academic excellence, community engagement, friendship, and leadership.
If your student is new (or new-ish) to the SIUE community, we encourage exploration of all of our councils and organizations. We encourage students to be true to themselves when seeking membership within an organization and believe that this kind of involvement can lead to life-long friendships, a stronger sense of self, and an enriched student experience.
We look forward to working with both you and your student(s) in the future. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at greeklife@siue.edu or 618-650-2686.
Sincerely,
Andrea Keller
