General Assistantship (2100-2024)

Qualifications

Must be admitted into a graduate program at SIUE, preference for Higher Education and Student Affairs program. Previous involvement as an undergraduate student preferred, could include involvement in student groups, student government, fraternity/sorority life, leadership programs, diversity and inclusion programs, training and facilitation, etc. Previous experience with event planning required. Must demonstrate communication & computer skills. Evidence of strong organizational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision required. Must be available to share in supervision of evening & weekend programs.

Position Description

 • Assist the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub (KHub) with the development and implementation of programs, projects, services, and initiatives that meet the educational, cultural, social, and diverse needs of the university community. These could include but are not limited to: history/heritage months; Cougar Welcome; affinity based-student welcomes and graduations; Homecoming/Family Weekend; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Luncheon; Phenomenal Wom*n Celebration, Marchdown, affinity groups, Sustained Dialogue, in addition to other programming to be determined
• Provide supervision and advising for student roles as assigned
• Assist with research, development, scheduling, and execution of enrichment opportunities for students, student organization advisors, and staff that foster growth and development
• Research, develop, schedule, and execute interactive, formal, and informal intercultural leadership development programs for students, staff, faculty, and community members
• Assist with recruitment and training of facilitators and volunteers for a variety of KHub initiatives
• Assist with developing handbooks, program materials, participant workbooks, facilitator guides, presentations, and other relevant materials for KHub initiatives and daily operations of the KHub
• Create marketing and social media content as needed or directed for KHub event promotion and initiatives
• Collaborate with campus partners such as MUC (Morris University Center) Marketing, Event Services, etc.
• Assist with timely and necessary execution of routine paperwork as necessary
• Assist with day-to-day functions of the office as needed including, but not exclusive to, answering phones, responding to the needs of guests, regularly tidying the office, etc.
• Assist with other duties as assigned that contribute to the mission and vision of the KHub
