General Assistantship (2087-2024)

Qualifications

Ability to provide reference services in an archival repository.
Ability to craft and design displays and exhibits, including scanning and mounting materials.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft programs and digital technologies.
Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive material and maintain confidentiality.
Expressed willingness to learn and gain new skills.
Ability to lift 30lbs.

Preference will be given to applicants with a background in African American literature, poetry or history, Black Studies, FAME/GAME program, library and information science and/or archives.  

Position Description

Provides general reference service (including virtual) in the Redmond Learning Center.
Aids in arrangement and description of the Eugene B. Redmond Collection which includes preparing and processing materials; basic digitization, creating metadata records for scanned materials, and communicating with production staff.
Creates guides and other reference tools to facilitate access primarily for the Redmond Collection but may assist with other archival collections.
Routinely develops and prepares exhibits highlighting that highlights segments of the Redmond Collection.
Maintain and transport Redmond Collection materials to and from the library to the library storage facility.
Assists in outreach activities, including programming and presentations to community, campus and K-12 groups.
Other duties as assigned.

Interval work performance indicators will be given throughout the semester. A documented evaluation will be given at the end of each semester. Renewal of contract will be determined by semester. Termination or non-renewal of the assistantship may result if specific duties are not accomplished or the candidate receives documented poor performance reviews.
